Carol A. White, 81, of Galesburg, Illinois, spent 45 years as a registered nurse and was, in her family's words, a farm lady through and through who loved her pets and her grandchildren. She passed away at home on September 28, 2026, after a nearly two-year battle with NASH, the liver disease now called MASH.
Carol spent 45 years as a registered nurse, most of them at OSF Galesburg and Prompt Care, caring for others long before she needed care herself. Born in Danville in 1945, she graduated from the Lake View Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1966 and made Galesburg her home in 1983. She married Lee T. (Bud) White III in 1988, and he survives her.
Her family describes her as a farm lady through and through and an avid pet lover. She enjoyed traveling and a night out at the casinos in retirement, but nothing made her happier than time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol's story is one we know too well here. NASH can stay silent for years, and a woman who gave a lifetime to her patients deserved more time with the people she loved. Her family's openness about her illness may help someone else ask their doctor the right question sooner.
She is survived by Bud and her beloved Lab, Sammy; her children Lee IV (Holly) White, Kris (Todd) Champion, Kathy Norris, Jeannie Skinner, Rex Warrick and Sean Warrick; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
To Bud and the whole family, our deepest sympathy.
